Frequently asked questions
Which subjects do you cover for private tutoring?
Our most popular subjects are Maths, English, 7+ and 11+. If you have another subject in mind let us know and we will try our best to match you with the perfect local tutor.
Which ages do you tutor?
We tutor children and adults of all ages!
Where are your tutors located?
Your Local Tutors is national and is actively recruiting tutors across the country. At the moment our biggest presence is in London, Surrey, Kent and the South West coast. If you’re in a location where we are low on tutors, you might have to be patient whilst we match you with your perfect local tutor.
How do you match students with tutors?
We will spend some time discussing the student's personality and educational needs with you before the perfect local tutor pops to mind. All of our tutors are smart, patient and kind but we want to make sure they are the right fit for your family.
We always recommend an hour trial session for private tutoring students. If you have any concerns once your tutor starts, we will be here to help and match you with someone new.
Will my child focus during a video session?
We offer video sessions on Zoom or Google Meet for children over the age of 6. These sessions are still engaging and productive as we are able to share our screen, use an on-screen whiteboard and work from the same materials that we would face-to-face.
If you have particular concerns about your child’s focus in a video session, we recommend having an adult in the room during the video session.
I would like private tutoring sessions but do not feel comfortable having a visitor.
That’s ok. We offer sessions in local spaces such as libraries or video sessions online!
Do you cater for students with special educational needs?
We’ve found that one-to-one sessions can be extremely rewarding for students with special educational needs.
If you would like us to match you with a tutor who has experience working with students with similar special educational needs or, if you would like your tutor to modify their approach for your child, just let us know.
We also have an in-house qualified dyslexia assessor in case you would like to arrange an assessment or advice.
What work is Your Local Tutors doing with local organisations in my community?
Our mission is to widen access to education for all. We live that out by supporting youth clubs, care homes and charities with academic, creative and careers related sessions. To find out more, reach out today.
Do I have to pay a 'finder's fee'?
No, there is no lump sum fee. Your Local Tutors will organise a flexible ad-hoc payment plan that you’re comfortable with and will be actively supporting your tutoring journey every step of the way.
